How to config IMAP, POP3 and SMTP for Outlook / Hotmail


You can use mail client to connect to Hotmail on PC / Mobile (iOS / Android) such as: Microsoft Outlook, Mozzilla Thunderbird, Outlook Express, etc.... Most popular mail application on Desktop (PC) / Mobile (iOS / Android) support access via IMAP, POP3 & SMTP protocols.

You can use default settings to connect to Hotmail with these popular mail client listed above. But for some special reasons, you will need to find the config detail to set up it manually. You can find it right here.

Hotmail IMAP Settings

  1. Incoming (IMAP) Server
    • Server address: imap-mail.outlook.com
    • Port: 993
    • Encrypted Connection: SSL
       
  2. Outgoing (SMTP) Server
    • Server address:smtp-mail.outlook.com
    • Port: 25 (or 587 if 25 is blocked)
    • Authentication: Yes
    • Encrypted Connection: TLS
  3. User name: your Hotmail / Outlook / Live email address
  4. Password: your Hotmail / Outlook / Live password

Hotmail POP3 Settings

You need to turn on POP for your Outlook.com account. By logging to your Hotmail account, Click on "Options", under Managing your account, click "Connect devices and apps with POP". Under POP, select Enable. Then click "Save". Now use these settings bellow to config POP3 for your mail client.

  1. Incoming (POP3) Server
    • Server address: pop-mail.outlook.com
    • Port: 995
    • Encrypted Connection: SSL
       
  2. Outgoing (SMTP) Server
    • Server address:smtp-mail.outlook.com
    • Port: 25 (or 587 if 25 is blocked)
    • Authentication: Yes
    • Encrypted Connection: TLS
  3. User name: your Hotmail / Outlook / Live email address
  4. Password: your Hotmail / Outlook / Live password

Hotmail SMTP Settings

The Hotmail SMTP settings would be the same for both POP3 and IMAP protocols.

  1. Hotmail Outgoing (SMTP) Server
    • Server address: smtp-mail.outlook.com
    • Port: 25 (or 587 if 25 is blocked)
    • Authentication: Yes
    • Encrypted Connection: TLS
